Selected highlights since our founding in 2007:
Campaign for Fair Food
Most recently, Just Harvest helped coordinate the successful, nationwide Trader Joe's campaign, which led to the retailer signing a Fair Food agreement with the CIW in February 2012.
We also played an important role in earlier victories in the Campaign for Fair Food including Burger King, Whole Foods, Subway, Bon Appetit, Compass, Aramark, and Sodexo. In the ongoing Publix campaign, we have provided on-the-ground support for the Farmworker Freedom March and the Do the Right Thing Tour.
Florida Modern-Day Slavery Museum
In 2010, Just Harvest was a key collaborator in the research, design, creation, and tour logistics of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers' (CIW) acclaimed Florida Modern-Day Slavery Museum.
2009 Business Ethics Network Award
The Campaign for Fair Food received the Business Ethics Network "BENNY" Award, which recognizes outstanding corporate campaign victories. Just Harvest USA was honored alongside the CIW, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), National Economic and Social Rights Initiative, Student/Farmworker Alliance, and Interfaith Action of Southwest Florida.
2009 Winner of Center for Urban Pedagogy’s “Making Policy Public” Contest
The winner receives a series of posters that use graphic design to explore complex public policy issues. Just Harvest and the CIW applied jointly for the Campaign for Fair Food.
Food Justice Delegation to Immokalee, Florida
In March 2009, Just Harvest coordinated a high-profile delegation to Immokalee which included food writers, sustainable food advocates and small farmers. The delegates witnessed firsthand the living and working conditions of farmworkers, conducted a joint press conference with the CIW, and built relationships with the farmworker community. Local Florida media – print, television and radio – covered the story extensively, and delegates, in the days following the visit, wrote about their experiences on blogs and websites.
